The translation memory editor
The memory editor lets you maintain the saved translations that future projects will reuse. It is a working editor, with source and target cells, row selection, filters, formatting tools, replacement, and assistance beside the text.
A memory unit is one saved source passage paired with its translation. It may look like a project segment, but you are editing a reusable resource rather than the current document.
Open the memory editor
Open Memories in the main navigation and open the memory you want to maintain. The library's Open action enters its unit editor. Its Edit action changes the memory's name and language information instead.
Check the memory name and language pair before changing content. The right-side Details tab shows resource information and available creation/update information for the selected memory unit.
Source, target, status, and locks
Each row has a source, target, status, and lock information. Saved units normally open confirmed and locked. This protects established translations from accidental typing or an unintended editing operation.
Locked does not mean unavailable for reuse. Saved units can still supply memory matches and Concordance examples. The lock concerns editing in this workspace.
Unlike the usual translation-file workflow, the memory editor lets you correct both source and target after unlocking. This is useful for an imported source typo as well as a translation error. Check the source carefully: changing it also changes the wording that future memory lookups can find.

Correct one unit
- Find the pair using the source or target search.
- Click its row so it is the only selected unit.
- Use its lock control to unlock it.
- Edit the source or target wording as appropriate.
- Check meaning, terminology, numbers, formatting, and tags on both sides.
- Use Confirm to save the edited pair to this memory.
- Check that the unit is confirmed and locked again.
Typing and moving to another row do not commit a memory edit. Locks, confirmation, and pending changes explains the full save workflow and what happens when leaving the editor.
Select several units
Click one row, then Shift-click another to select a range in the displayed order. Ctrl-click or Command-click adds or removes individual rows. Use the segment Select all command to select the current filtered set, including matching rows outside the screen.
Select the intended locked rows and use the selection's Lock/Unlock command to unlock a group. Then click a single row to type in it, or use an appropriate batch operation. Recheck the selection before confirming a group or deleting entries.
Selecting words inside a cell has a different purpose from selecting rows. Formatting and phrase research use the text selection; supported batch commands use the row selection. See Selecting segments and batch actions.
Use editing and assistance tools
| Tool | How it helps |
|---|---|
| Undo and Redo | Review or reverse pending editing steps |
| Character formatting and phrase case tools | The memory segment toolbar adjusts highlighted source or target wording; the Edit ribbon's formatting buttons use the target |
| Segment case and ending punctuation | Apply supported wording adjustments to selected units |
| Symbols | Insert a character that is difficult to type or distinguish |
| Find and Replace | Find repeated wording and prepare a controlled correction |
| Tag tools | Inspect or repair formatting markers where supported |
| Chat | Discuss selected memory content and inspect proposed changes |
| Add term from source/target selections | Turn a useful terminology decision into a glossary entry |
Unlock the units you want to change before editing. For AI proposals, review and apply the changes, then confirm the corrected units to save them.
The Memory editor toolbar explains the individual commands, their selection requirements, configuration, and an example correction workflow.
The memory workspace's permanent side tabs are Details, Searchspeare (Chat), and Find and Replace. Commands can also open additional tool tabs. The side-panel guide describes these controls.
Return to the full memory
The source and target fields and Filters menu narrow the unit table. The filter bar's X labeled Clear all clears the searches, conditions, and sorting so you can see the whole loaded memory again.
Clear filters before selecting the whole memory
Clear filters before Select all when your intention is every loaded unit. Clearing filters does not save or discard pending edits. Use bulk editing and maintenance for the scope of replacement, confirmation, deletion, and export.
