Ribbon and command navigation

The ribbon is the command bar at the top of a working page. Its tabs group actions by the task you are doing. Different pages have different commands: a memory library, an alignment, and a translation file are different workspaces.

Use Show and customize toolbars to compare the ribbon with the segment menus, filter bars, and panel actions. Each editing workspace has its own toolbar guide.

The exact tabs and actions depend on the workflow and settings. Single-language review hides bilingual resource commands. Turning on non-AI mode removes AI controls from the working interface.

Each linked tab has its own command guide. The current file editor uses File and Searchspeare as its visible tab names. Memory, termbase, alignment, library, and business pages have their own workspace-specific ribbons.

Keep the ribbon open or collapse it

Use the pin control to keep the ribbon expanded. Unpin it when you want more room for text. With the ribbon collapsed, click a tab to open its commands temporarily; click outside to return to the compact layout.

If tabs extend beyond the available width, use the horizontal scroll controls to reach the remaining tabs. A narrower window can change which controls fit on screen.

The expanded View ribbon shows its display controls below the tabs.

Use descriptions and shortcuts

Hover over a command to read its description and see an assigned shortcut. Many command buttons also offer a context menu for editing their shortcut. Shortcuts explains how to assign one and check for conflicts.

Command search helps when you know the action but cannot remember its tab. Open the command palette using its assigned shortcut or the app's command-search control, then search by action name.

Check which segments a command changes

Toolbar Translate and File Translate use different rows

Similar names can have different scopes. The segment toolbar's Translate works on eligible selected rows within the filtered set. The ribbon's Translate choices for All empty segments and All unconfirmed segments use the whole open file or View, including hidden rows.

The ribbon's Review choices also differ: All non-empty segments uses the filtered set, while All unconfirmed segments and the main document Review action use the whole loaded set with the status and text checks described in the scope guide. Use Selecting segments and batch actions before running a batch if the scope is unclear.

Why an action may be unavailable

A command may require a selected row, text selection, attached resource, supported file, available AI service, or a particular page. For example, the translation toolbar's Concordance entry requires attached project memories; a tag insertion action needs an appropriate editor and a tag to insert. The Concordance guide explains the scope of searches opened from other places.

Check the current selection and workflow before looking for a missing setting. The segment toolbar is customizable, so hiding a command there does not remove it from Searchspeare.
